Spyderco Military 2 - One big surprise at the Blade show was the official unveiling of the long-awaited Spyderco Military 2, the successor to the beloved and classic military model. The Military 2 is a thoughtful reworking of the hard-working classic that immediately took the Blade Show award.
The Military has been an active model in Spyderco's range since 1996. The story goes that Sal Glesser designed the knife after asking his son (who has a few knives of his own design) what kind of blade he wanted. It became a staple in the Spydie catalog with dozens of variations over the years, eventually laying the foundation for the Para Military line.

This 2022 sequel doesn't mess with the basic bones of the design. Army 2 seems to be all about refinement. The grip profile is softened with the forefinger tip (a la the Para Military 2) and the sink/belly in the main part of the grip tightens. The pocket clip is now higher and can be turned into a four-way return position. But the biggest change is the lock. The OG Millie is one of the very few line locks in Spyderco's lineup. The Military 2 runs on the spine side of the knife and leapfrogs the company's patented Compression Lock, which has a proven track record on Para Military models. At least the blade steel on this first model is S30V.
